Everything seemed like a beautifully woven dream. He was everything I had hoped and dreamed of. Our relationship seemed like the ideal love story I’d always pictured. After zooming out a bit, and looking through the pain, the sense of perfection, this mirage of invincibility reminded me of the Titanic. The passengers on that ship, brimming with hope and excitement, also boarded the ship under the impression of perfection.
But just as it was with the Titanic, things changed dramatically for us. I’ve come to realize that people change, situations evolve and nothing in life is static. Although sometimes change is gradual, this transformation wasn’t gradual, but rather abrupt and unforeseen, much like an iceberg lurking beneath serene waters.
Sometimes there’s a raw honesty to life that no fantasy can hide. In the same way, the harsh truths about our relationship began to unfold, revealing a reality far removed from the dreamy facade I was clinging onto. What I’ve come to realize is that no one deserves to be pushed to the sidelines or made to feel like they’re of secondary importance.
Each one of us has the right to be cherished, respected, and loved wholeheartedly.
Parting ways can be a difficult and uncomfortable process. Choosing to leave, not with bitterness or regret, but with the understanding that I’ve managed to dodge hundreds of emotional bullets is an end result and not something I came to overnight.
It’s a long, painful, process. If there was a pill for this pain and emotionally exhausting process, it would be the most sought-after pill on the planet.
There’s a reason it’s called a breakup.
It’s because something was inherently BROKEN.
Something we couldn’t mend despite our best efforts. And now, I walk away from the wreckage, not as a casualty, but as a survivor.
It’s a realization that’s brought a sense of relief, like gasping for air after a long struggle underwater. Drowning. Struggling for so long.
But finally. Fresh air.
